A Tricky And Difficult Oxford University Floor Function Calculus Puzzle!
Do you know what a floor function is?
Oxford University has very good math challenges on their entrance exam because it only assumes high school knowledge, nothing more nothing less. Except it truly does test our understanding of the fundamentals to a very high level, sometimes we got to have a bit of creativity as well.
Now for those who don’t know what a floor function is, it gives us the largest integer that’s less than or equal to x.
For example ⌊-π⌋ = -4 and ⌊e⌋ = 2
Now as you solve try to understand the nature of the given function, you will find a geometric sum. That’s the hint I have for you!
